why do we need first aid?what is its importance?what should be in our first aid box?
First aid is a very basic medical aid program. It teaches u how to manage an emergency medical situation until help arrives, or to manage minor situations on ur own.
You need first aid because people get hurt, & wouldnt it be nice if u could help them? What if ur mom has a stroke right now..could u save her? How about if ur uncle breaks his leg? First aid teaches u how to save not only strangers, but family & friends.
Your first aid kit should include:
Things u should have:
Two pairs of Latex, or other sterile gloves (if u r allergic to Latex).
Sterile dressings to stop bleeding.
Cleansing agent/soap & antibiotic towelettes to disinfect.
Antibiotic ointment to prevent infection.
Burn ointment to prevent infection.
Adhesive bandages in a variety of sizes.
Eye wash solution to flush the eyes or as general decontaminant.
Thermometer (Read more: Biological Threat)
Prescription medications u take every day such as insulin, heart medicine & asthma inhalers. You should periodically rotate medicines to account for expiration dates.
Prescribed medical supplies such as glucose & blood pressure monitoring equipment & supplies.
Things it may be good to have:
Cell Phone
Scissors
Tweezers
Tube of petroleum jelly or other lubricant
Non-prescription drugs:
Aspirin or nonaspirin pain reliever
Anti-diarrhea medication
Antacid (for upset stomach)
Laxative
Of course, unless u have had First Aid training, u may do more harm than good..the most important tool in a first aid kit is a well trained user. Contact ur local Red Cross today.
